Learning Community
Dear Teachers, Staff, Mentors and members of the Learning Community,
It's that time of the year when Grade 5 is looking up to the entire school community for their enthusiastic support and expert guidance in making our PYPX successful. Our grade 5 learners are eager to start their work on the PYPX and they surely would be delighted to have you support them in this endeavour.
Role of mentors (excerpt from Culminating Learning Experiences)
Mentors may be drawn from all members of the learning community. Mentors help students set and meet their goals by asking questions, suggesting resources, helping to interpret difficult information and facilitating interviews or contacts outside the school. They may also contribute as subject area experts.
Here's what Grade 5 will be doing this year.
Theme: - How we express ourselves
Learners' will use their creative expression to showcase their understanding of the issue and related action taken throughout the journey.
What is already done with the students:
Introduction to SDG (Sustainable Development goals, prescribed by the UN); finding local and global issues from newspapers, magazines and so on; choosing an issue they are interested in; sorting the issues as per the SDGs; grouping the learners; announcing of groups.
Central Idea:- An umbrella central idea will be co-constructed with the learners.
Number of groups:- 24 on the basis of SDG
Scheduled timing for PYPX : Everyday 8:00 am to 9:00 am ; between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm (optional).
As mentors, you should meet the group at least once in a week for about 20-30 minutes in any given time slot above.
If you are interested in being a part of this journey and can commit for at least a weekly catch up with the group, do let us know by March 8th before 14:00. More details on the contribution of mentors will be shared soon.
Regards,
Grade 5 Team
